Authors, Writers and Journalists
Authors, writers and journalists are evaluated based on demonstrated literary merit through verifiable accomplishments in creative writing. We’ve established three tiers to reflect different levels of professional experience and literary contribution.
Tier 1: Established Writers
REQUIREMENTS:
At least one published book of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, journalism, or a scholarly text (biographies, histories, how-to guides, travel books, or book reviews) from a reputable press.
OR two major literary or journalistic publications in edited anthologies, respected magazines, or award-winning journals.
Verification: Professional website, publisher details, ISBN listings.
Result: Direct acceptance with a professional listing and potential feature opportunities.
Tier 2: Emerging Voices
REQUIREMENTS:
One published chapbook or two published works (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or journalism) in reputable literary journals, magazines, or anthologies.
OR one notable spoken word or journalism performance at a recognized literary event or media outlet.
Verification: Event programs, online features, publication links.
Result: Acceptance with eligibility for community spotlights and networking events.
Tier 3: Promising Writers (Developmental Path)
REQUIREMENTS:
One piece of writing published in a reputable literary journal, recognized blog, or credible media outlet with editorial standards.
OR a documented reading/performance at a recognized literary venue or media event.
Verification: Publication links, media coverage, or event programs.
Result: Provisional listing with mentorship and development opportunities.
Eligible Self-Published Works
Self-published works. are evaluated on a case by case basis by our Directory Development team.
Works professionally produced with demonstrated editorial oversight, verified distribution, and significant sales or reviews.
Works recognized with literary or journalistic awards or included in respected anthologies.
Ineligible Works
To maintain high standards, some works and achievements are not eligible for consideration:
Vanity Press Publications: Works from presses requiring payment for publishing, marketing, or distribution, or requiring authors to purchase books.
Closed-Membership Publications: Work published exclusively within member-only platforms.
Self-Published Works Without Verification: Books or articles lacking professional production, distribution, or editorial oversight.
Children’s Writing: Work targeting readers under age 12.
Non-Literary Publications: Credits from outlets not regularly publishing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or journalism.
Editorial Bias: Work published by presses where you hold an editorial role.
Theatrical Writing: Plays, screenplays, or dramatic treatments.
Application Process for Publishers
Who Can Apply: Reputable publishers specializing in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or journalism.
REQUIREMENTS:
At least three published titles with standard book contracts.
Demonstrated distribution network and industry recognition.
Verification: Catalogs, ISBN listings, and sales data.
Result: Direct listing with a highlighted publisher profile.
Application Process for Literary Journals
Who Can Apply: Literary journals with a history of publishing high-quality work in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or journalism.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of two years of continuous publication.
Consistent editorial standards and professional design.
Verification: ISSN registration, publication samples, and editor credentials.
Result: Listing with an editorial profile and opportunity for contributor spotlights.
Application Process for Literary Agents
Who Can Apply: Established literary agents actively representing poets, fiction writers, nonfiction authors, or journalists.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of five successfully represented authors with published works through recognized presses.
Professional association membership (e.g., AAR or other literary organizations).
Verification: Author publication records, client testimonials, and press releases.
Result: Professional agent profile with direct contact information and client success stories.
